Backpacking Brunei: Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque and Kampong Ayer

One of the famous attractions in Brunei is the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque because it is one of the most beautiful mosque in the Asia Pacific. It is named after a Sultan of Brunei and is a symbol of Islamic faith. The mosque is near the water Village or the Kampong Ayer.

From a far, the mosque is very spectacular as it features a golden dome. You can also see that it is surrounded with water. It was a very nice view.

When you get to tour the place, you will see the Kampong Ayer in the Brunei Bay/River with all the water taxis that could take you there for a tour. There are around 39,000 people who live here. Just imagine how big this area is. There is a bridge in the middle of the river that reaches the lagoon where the mosque is located.

The mosque was built in a lagoon and it has a beautiful courtyard, garden, marble minaret and that spectacular gold dome. We haven't got close to it but seeing it in the morning as well as in the night made it all worth the trip.

You can actually have a nice angle and view of the mosque on the nearby mall. You can go look for this area and I am sure you'll have a nice photo of the mosque.

Here is the water village and the mosque at night. It is very nice and pretty sight with all the light.

When ever you visit Brunei, make sure to visit the Kamporng Ayer or the Water Village and the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque in Bandar Seri Begawan. These are must see places so make sure to add it to you're to do list in your trip!
